Let's first understand what rain water harvesting is. It is the process of collecting, storing and purifying rainwater. There are various steps involved in collection of rainwater harvesting.

i) The water is first collected in a catchment
ii) Using a conveyance system it is then transported from catchment
iii) The water is then filtered in order to remove the possible pollutants
iv) The filtered water is then stored in tanks for future use

Note:The disadvantage of rain water harvesting are - it requires regular maintenance and if the water is not stored and collected properly it can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Also, if there is no rainfall or less rainfall, the collection of water becomes limited.
