Hint :To solve this type of problem we should know about the properties of the lens and the ray diagram for incidence rays for a given lens.
Lens-A lens is a piece of transparent material that is formed in a definite shape which causes a light ray to bend in a specific way as it passes through it. It will deviate the path of light rays.
Mainly lens are two types:
-Concave lens
-Convex lens
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Let’s take the lens to solve this problem.
Draw a ray diagram to solve this problem.
First take a concave lens and a convex lens. Let assume that the object is placed at an infinite distance from the lens. Draw parallel rays from infinite.
We find all will diverge from the center except from a point through which it goes undeviating. This point lies on the principle line of the lens through which reflected ray passes through parallel to incidence ray. This point will be the optical center of the lens.
For concave lenses the ray diagram will be.
Here, O is the optical center of the Concave lens.
For Convex lenses the ray diagram will be.
Here, O is the optical center of the Convex lens.
Note :
Concave lens is a diverging lens and Convex lens will be a converging lens. This lens is formed by joining two spherical surfaces. If one side of the spherical surface is painted then this will act as a concave and convex mirror which we use in our daily life like a vehicle side mirror, dental appliances, solar cooker etc. They can enlarge and diminish the image of objects.
