Hint: This ocean has a depth of 3960 metres, which is 12,990 feet and considered to be the third-largest body of water in the world.

Complete Step by Step Answer: The Indian Ocean is a body of saltwater comprising approximately one-fifth of the total ocean area of the world. The depth of the Indian Ocean is 3960 metres and stretches for more than 10,000 km between the southern tips of Africa and Australia.
The Indian Ocean is surrounded by Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Iran to the north; Antarctica to the south; Australia, the Sunda Islands of Indonesia and the Malay Peninsula to the east and the Arabian Peninsula and Africa to the west. It mingles with the Pacific Ocean in the east and southeast and joins the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest. The greatest depth of the ocean is the Java Trench with a depth of 24,460 ft.
The Indian Ocean is considered to be the third-largest body of water in the world and covers 20 percent of it. It is separated from the Pacific Ocean by the 147˚east meridian and from the Atlantic Ocean by 20˚east meridian. The well-known islands situated on the Indian Ocean are Seychelles, Mauritius, Reunion (France), The Comores (Spain), Maldives (Portugal), Madagascar and Sri Lanka.
In the offshore areas of Iran, Saudi Arabia, India and Western Australia, large reserves of hydrocarbons are being tapped. Mineral resources such as nodules containing nickel, iron and cobalt, and massive sulphide deposits of manganese, iron, zinc, copper, gold and silver are widely distributed on the sea bed. This ocean accounts for about 15 percent of the world’s total fish production and also contributes 40 per cent of the world’s offshore oil production.

Note: The five oceans are connected with each other and are termed as the global ocean. The five oceans of the world are - the Arctic Ocean, the Southern Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, with Pacific Ocean being the largest among all.
