Here we have been provided with the observations 3, 7, 4, 6 and 5. We have to find the standard deviation of these observations. To calculate the standard deviation first we need to calculate the mean of these observations.
Now, we know that mean of n observations is given as x¯=i=1nxin where x¯ denotes the mean. Clearly we can see that we have only 5 observations so the value of n is equal to 5. Therefore the mean can be given as:
x¯=i=15xi5x¯=x1+x2+x3+x4+x55
Substituting the values of given observations we get,

Substituting the values of observations and simplifying we get,
σ=15×[(35)2+(75)2+(45)2+(65)2+(55)2]σ=15×[4+4+1+1]σ=2
Hence the standard deviation of the given observations is 2.
