Complete step by step answer:Bhopal gas tragedy had occurred at a Union Carbide Subsidiary pesticide plant on the night of 2nd December 1984. The factory was made to produce a pesticide called Selvin using methyl isocyanate as its intermediate. According to reports, water had entered the manufacturing tank which has resulted in a chemical reaction. The pressure in the time increase five times by night, during the midnight workers near the working area started feeling the effects of methyl isocyanide gas, by that and the chemical reaction in the tank had already reached its critical state. Within an hour about 30 tons of methyl isocyanate gas had skipped into the atmosphere Doctors were not aware of the proper medical facilities and treatments to deal with the patients. The mortality rate increases by up to 200%. Within some trees in the surrounding areas become barren. The city ran out of cremation grounds.

Note:Methyl isocyanide is a colorless and highly flammable liquid gas that is used for making pesticides. It is highly reactive to change in temperature that is high temperature. Methyl isocyanide is exposed to water they react with each other causing heat reaction. Methyl isocyanate is safe for use if maintained properly, though it is no longer used in production still it is used in pesticides.
