Complete answer:
"Gautamiputra" ,it literally means the "son of Gautami",. Satakarni is the title common to several the Satavahana kings. Such matronymics also come in the names of other Satavahana kings, including Vasishthiputra Pulumavi . These do not indicate the matrilineal descent system.

Gautamiputra was the famous emperor of the Andhra dynasty . The Sattavahanas are mentioned in Puranas, as the Andhra king. The founder of the dynasty was Simukha, he won from the last Kanva king Susharman and founded the Satavahana dynasty.

We came to know about him from an inscription composed by his mother, Gautami Balashri . He was a ruler of the Empire the present-day, Deccan area of India. He ruled for the 1st or 2nd century , but his exact period is not defined yet.

The information available about the Gautamiputra comes from his coins, the Satavahana, and the royal genealogies in the various Puranas.

The best known , is the Nashik prashasti inscription of his mother , which credits him with military conquests. Historical evidence suggests that the Gautamiputra revived the Satavahanas' power after the decline caused by Shaka.

Note:His life story, and administration, his invasions and the incidents in his life discussed in the book named Nasik Prasasti. This was written after the demise of Satakarni by Devi Gautami Balasri, his mother.Gautamiputra means the "son of Gautami".
