Complete answer:
Southwest monsoons begin from the month of June or July and end till the month of September which heats up the Thar Desert and areas of the Northern as well as Central Indian during the summers which creates low pressure over these regions. In order to fill this void moisture-laden winds including thunder and lightning rush to the subcontinent from the Indian Ocean which is sometimes also known as burst or break of the monsoon and reaches the southern part of the Indian Peninsula. The prominent areas receiving these bursts are Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra. These winds get separated into two parts because of its topography, i.e. Arabian Sea Branch and Bay of Bengal.
Regarding its general direction the Southwest winds blow from the southwest to the land after crossing the equator and enters the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and follow the southwesterly direction. In case of its change in direction, then it is considered to be a complete withdrawal when it reaches 15 degree North over the Peninsular India during 15th October. Some of the prominent states from where withdrawal is done by 1st October are Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, West Madhya Pradesh and West and Central Uttar Pradesh.

Note:It is considered that the Southwest Monsoon covers approximately 80% of the rainfall in India. The Indian agriculture is mainly dependent on these monsoon which is responsible for the contribution of 25% of the GDP. The major crops of this season are cotton, rice, oilseeds etc.
The impact of Southwest Monsoon is felt as far as the North in the region of China’s Xinjiang.
