Hint:- The greenhouse effect was firstly reported by Fourier (1827) and the term was coined by Arrhenius. In this process, gases absorb long wave radiation from earth and emit it again towards the earth.

Complete step-by-step solution:-
Global warming is a phenomenon which results in a rise of temperature than the average temperature of Earth’s surface. The greenhouse effect plays a vital role in it as the greenhouse effect is a process in which the radiation from any of the planet’s atmosphere warms the surface of the planet, from its average temperature which results in global warming. Generally, when the radiation of the sun enters the earth’s atmosphere, 90% of the harmful rays are reflected by the gases present in the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases include water vapour, methane, nitrous-oxide, ozone, carbon-dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons and many other harmful gases. The greenhouse effect is increasing day by day, as several human activities result in releasing of those harmful gases, majorly burning fossil fuels, i.e. coal, oil and natural gas, deforestation (cutting down of trees) and farming. The increase in greenhouse gases results in an increased annual temperature of the earth. The consequences of global warming can be seen as depletion of glaciers, rise in sea levels and disruption in the number of cycles that maintains life on earth. Rise in temperature results in rise in sea level due to melting of glaciers. If rise in sea water will increase continuously then it can lead to submerging of thousands of islands. Global warming can also result in drought and floods, due to which the El Nino effect will become common.

Additional Information:-
Method of prevention:
The global warming can be controlled by making few changes in our daily life tasks like:
- Recycling more and wasting less.
- By planting more and more trees.
- By switching to renewable sources of energy.
- Using the energy-efficient devices.
- By spreading awareness.
- Conserve more and more the non-renewable sources of energy.

Note:- The EL Nino is the periodic change which occurs after every 5 to 8 years in the Pacific oceans. It results in the killing of fishes and other biota in the oceans.
The CO$_2$ concentration in the atmosphere was 200ppm in 1750, 368ppm in 2000 and 380ppm in 2007.
