Hint: India is an agriculture rich country. The agriculture sector is the primary source of income in India. Agro-based industries are the industries which use agricultural materials as raw materials.

Complete answer:The agro-based industries depend on the agricultural production of the country because their requirement for raw material is fulfilled by agricultural output. They contribute a lot in industrial production and economic growth of the country. For example, food processing, vegetable oil, cotton textile, dairy products and leather industries.

The interconnection between agriculture and industry, agro-industries can be of two types-
 (a) processing industries, and
 (b) input supply industries.

The major agro-based industries are;
1.Cotton textiles
2.Woollen textiles
3.Silk textiles
4.Synthetic fibres
5.Jute textile industries

Cotton textile industries constitute a major portion of the total fabric produced. They are found in and around Mumbai because of the favourable humid coastal climate and transport facilities.

Woollen textile industry in India has not flourished much because of short winters and long summers in India. This leads to inadequate demand. Hence, their productivity is low. Kanpur is the centre of wool production in India.

India bags the second rank in the production of natural silk, after China. It produces all varieties of natural silk, Karnataka being the largest producer of silk.

Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, Amritsar and Gwalior are the centres of the synthetic textile industry.
The raw materials for this industry are costly.

India is the largest jute producing country. The Hooghly region produces around 90 per cent of the total production of jute in India. This is because of the suitable humid climate, transport and market facility and availability of cheap labour.

Looking at the options above:

Option a: The cotton textile industry, jute industry, the sugar industry constitute the agro-based industries. This is the correct option.

Option b: Hardware industry and drinking water industry are not associated with the agro-based industries. This is an incorrect option.

Option c: The banking industry is not associated with agro-based industries. This is an incorrect option.

Option d: This option stands invalid now.

Option 'a' is correct.

Note: While answering this question do not get confused in the drinking water industry and food. It is not a part of the agro-based industries.
