Hint: Sher Shah’s empire occupied nearly half of North India, he was born in 1486, Sasaram ( modern day Bihar) India and died in 1554 during the siege against the Rajputs of Mahoba.

Sher Shah Suri, was emperor of North India in the Islamic Sur ( Afghan dynasty); his original name was Farid khan, he was a dynamic, brave and bold soldier and therefore the title of “ Sher khan” was given to him for saving the life of king of Bihar from a tiger.
Apart from his military skills he was good at administration, hence joined the service of Governor of Bihar, Bahar khan in 1522. He went from being a private status commander under Babur in Mughal Army to become the Governor of Bihar, when Bahar khan died Sher Shah Suri became the virtual ruler of Bengal as ‘Jalal Khan’, the son of the deceased king was a minor. He led several military campaigns against Mughal king, Babur and by defeating him he captured Delhi.
Though his rule lasted for only five years, he organized an excellent administrative system under which his empire was divided in forty-seven sarkars, which were further divided into various sub-officers and Parganas, (Karkuns) Accountants, (Amin) land revenue collector, (Shiqdar) military officer.
