Hint: While rounding a number to nearest thousand we should consider the number in the hundred’s place and analyze it. There are different processes performed depending on the nature of the number present in the hundreds place i.e. considering if it greater than or lesser than the number 5. So based on the above statement we can perform the same steps for the number given and then round it to the nearest thousand.
Complete step-by-step solution:
Given
Now from (i) we can see that in the given number we have 7 in thousands places and 4 in the hundreds place.
Now while rounding a number to the nearest thousand we have to consider the number present in the hundreds place such that:
a) If the number in the hundreds place is greater than 5 then it’s rounded up such that to the next nearest thousand considering the number in the thousands place.
b) If the number in the hundreds place is lesser than 5 then it’s rounded down such that to the same value of thousands considering the number in the thousands place.
So here in the thousands place we have 7 which can be rounded to either 8 or 7 depending on the number present in the hundreds place.
Here at hundreds places we have 4 which is less than 5 so the number is rounded down such that it’s rounded to the nearest lowest thousand which would be 7000.
Therefore on rounding we can write:
.
Note: On solving questions similar to the above one we should always take care about the two rules mentioned above such that it would be easier to execute the simplification process. Rounding of a number simply means the process of replacing it with another number such that it’s nearly equal and can be represented in a much easier way.
