Hint: This law was given by Isaac Newton. The law states that any body remains or tends to remain in its same state of motion until and unless any external force is applied on it. Also he gave another statement that earth applies force of attraction each and everybody present on earth called force of gravity which pulls an object towards its centre.

Complete step by step solution:
Initially the fruits and dry leaves are in state of rest and possess inertia of rest. When we shake the branch of a tree the tree possesses a state of motion whereas the fruits and leaves tend to remain in state of rest. Due to this inertia of rest the fruits and leaves get detached from the branch and because of gravity it falls down. Inertia is a property of a body due to which it remains or tends to remain in the same state of motion until and unless any external force is applied on it.

There are three types of inertia- inertia of rest, inertia of motion and inertia of direction. Other examples of inertia are when we beat a carpet with a stick, dust comes out of it. When a stationary bus suddenly starts moving, the passengers sitting inside the bus fall back due to inertia of rest.

Note: When the tree is shaken, the fruits and dry leaves fall because of inertia of rest. If the fruits and leaves fall naturally without any force then it is because of the force of gravity. Gravity acts on all bodies whether it is in state of rest or motion. But change in inertia acts when external force is applied on it.
