Hint: The world population, which was roughly 2 billion in 1900, climbed to about 6 billion in 2000. In India, we observed a similar growth pattern as well. An imbalanced death rate and growth rate are responsible for the population boom.
Complete answer:
The causes of population growth are as followed:
(1) There were several deaths due to illnesses in the olden days. The advancement in medical sciences, however, has regulated the diseases and caused the death rate to decline.
(2) Agricultural production, better growing techniques, and better-quality food.
(3) Due to improved storage conditions, food is available at all times. So, when food is not available people do not die of hunger.
(4) Man has built houses in order to protect himself from wild animals and the environment. He is protected from nature's forces.
The consequences of population growth are as follows:
(1) Poverty: If the family is big, disadvantaged people with small incomes can become poor.
(2) Unhygienic living conditions due to the increased number of individuals living in a small space. It will raise illnesses in individuals.
(3) There will be a housing crisis as more homes are needed for the growing population, but they are not constructed at such a high pace.
(4) Noise is an external concern for a large population. Environmental emissions can arise from large populations.
Note: The death rate has declined in the last 50 years. The factors leading to a reduced death rate and an increased birth rate are the control of diseases, awareness, and dissemination of information, improvement in medical care, guaranteed food supply in emergency situations, etc. All this has also resulted in an increase in the life span of a person.
