Hint: vernier caliper consists of one main scale, one vernier scale, and two pairs of jaws. The lower pair is used to measure the external dimension of the object and the upper pair is used to measure the internal dimension of the object. One jaw is attached to the main scale, which is fixed in position and another is attached to the movable vernier scale. It also has a depth probe which is used to measure the depth of the object or length of the object.

Following are the most common three uses of vernier calipers.
(1)- It is used to accurately measure the internal width of the object. For example, to measure the inner diameter of a hollow cylinder we can make use of vernier calipers.
(2) it is used to accurately measure the external width of the object. For example to measure the diameter of a solid sphere or a solid cylinder we make use of the vernier calipers. That is, to measure the radius/diameter of the circular objects
(3) it is used to accurately measure the depth or length of the object. For example to measure the height of a cylinder we make use of the vernier calipers.

Vernier caliper is used to measure the linear dimensions of an object. The Least count of vernier calipers is \[0.01\].
Least count is the smallest measurement that an instrument can measure accurately.
Its accuracy is $\dfrac{1}{{1000}}th$ of an inch.
Vernier caliper was invented in \[1631\] by Pierre vernier.
They are also used in manufacturing industries for accurate measurement.
