Hint: Mitosis is a biological process in which a single cell divides to form two identical daughter cells. In addition to it, the main function of mitosis is the growth of the cell and replacing the worn-out cells. Mitosis can be studied in the human part of the body in which even after being cut it grows again.
Complete step by step answer: The biological process in which the replicated chromosome separates into two new nuclei is called mitosis. Mitosis is a stage of the cell cycle. Genetically identical cells are formed by dividing the cell mitotically and hence the total number of chromosomes is maintained. Mitosis has four main cell phases- Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase. In mitosis, the division of the nucleus is initiated in the S stage of interphase, and further, it is followed by division of the cytoplasm, organelles, and cell membrane during a process called telophase and cytokinesis leading to the formation of two new cells which are genetically identical.
The cells present in the nail base are called cuticles. It is also named eponychium. The growth of the nail takes place by the division of these living cells. The stages of mitosis can be observed in these living cell cuticles and can be used to study mitosis.
So, Option C: nail base is the correct answer.
Note: The mitosis and meiosis are totally two different processes. In meiosis, the division of cells takes place to form gametes from germ cells in sexual reproduction. In addition to it, the somatic cells undergo only the mitotic type of cell division.
