Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) is the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facility in India and is part of a line of maritime-related facilities in the port-city of Kochi,Kerala.
It’s first phase of facilities soon came online. The company has the Maniratnam status. In August of 2012, the Indian government announced its plans of divestment to raise capital of Rs. 15 billion rupees for further expansion through an initial public offering (IPO) as the end of the fiscal year approaches.
The shipyard has even taken up the initiative of training graduate engineers in marine engineering. It is approximated that one hundred students are trained each year.

The first ship emerging at the Cochin Shipyard was the MV Rani Padmini(1981). It’s yard has delivered two of India's largest double-hull Aframax tankers. Cochin Shipyard is even responsible for building India's first indigenous aircraft carrier- INS Vikrant which is the first aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy to be built and designed in the country of India. The shipyard began its ship repair services in 1982 and chose to undertake upgrades and repairs for all types of ships. These ships were even made for the oil manufacturing industry.
