On 5 December 1989, under the environment protection act of 1986. The ministry of government and forest, the government of India has released some rules and regulation for the manufacture, use, research and release of genetically modified organisms. According to the 1989 regulation,
-No person can import, export, sell, manufacture and transport genetically modified organisms without the approval of GEAC.
-No one can use genetically modified organisms and their cells for research purposes.
-Involuntary release of GMO is also not allowed without the permission of GEAC.
Additional Information:
The biosafety cabinet is formulated for the protection of the environment, laboratory and laboratory equipment from infectious chemicals and it is divided into three cabinets with different rules and regulation. The level of biosafety cabinets increases from level I to level III. The main chemicals are aerosols which lead to the spread of infections while doing the experiments.
Note:
The biodiversity protocol is part of the convention in biodiversity. It is a biodiversity protecting treaty, which helps to promote the benefit of genetic inheritance present in biodiversity. It led to the sustainable use and benefit of genetic resources.
