It has a line length of kilometers and its track gauge is 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in). Its operating speed is 120 kilometers per hour (75mph). Its electrification process is in progress and it is completed in Mangalore – Thokur – Panambur – Udupi, Panvel – Roha – Veer – and Kanwar – Madgaon – Vasco-Da-Gama/Karmali sections. In 1998, during the monsoon season, torrential rains triggered landslides which washed away the tracks and disrupted service. This problem recurred each year. Then the train speeds have been reduced during the monsoon to 75 kilometers per hour and some engineering precautions have been taken. Safety has also been improved along the line. The longest bridge on the Konkan Railway route is the Sharavathi river bridge.
