It involves two steps that are karyokinesis and cytokinesis. Karyokinesis is the division of the nucleus while the cytokinesis is the division of the cytoplasm. Mitosis includes four stages that are: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. It does include any sub-stages.
Meiosis is reductional division which results in the haploid number of chromosomes in the daughter cells. Meiosis I and Meiosis II are two stages to meiosis. Meiosis involves much the same mechanism as mitosis. Meiosis I includes prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I and Telophase I. The prophase I of the meiosis occurs in five steps. These five steps or sub-stages are: Leptotene(formation of thin threads), zygotene(paired threads), pachytene (packing and synapses of chromosomes), Diplotene (chiasmata formation), Diakinesis(chromosomes condenses).
From the above information, it is known that Leptotene, Zygote, Pachytene are not the characteristics of mitosis.
