Complete answer:
Let us first understand what happiness is. If easy access to technology and gadgets, having a luxurious car, a lavish lifestyle, and a big bungalow is treated as a means of happiness, then we are the happiest generation. We have all those comforts in our lives which our forefathers have never even dreamt of. But unfortunately, this happiness is a misbelief. All these things are counted as the pleasures of life. Happiness comes from within. It is a feeling that comes from the core of the heart. Eating and drinking well give us pleasure for a time. It doesn’t give us what the actual happiness is.
Yes, today we have everything that life can offer but neither do we have the joy, love, care nor the peace and help from the pain. Our forefathers got nothing in comparison but they have the strength derived from the faith in god. They used to live a simple and peaceful life. There was no scarcity for laughter, sharing, and caring. Compared to our forefathers we aren’t living a peaceful life. There is so much stress, mistrust, disbelief, rat race, incompatibility, etc. Life today is rather a race where everyone is running to reach the unattainable targets. Peace of mind has become a rare commodity. We should agree that is not as happy as our ancestors were. But we should be happy because we have our ancestors to learn the real-life experience. Think about the coming generations. There would be no one to tell them about the time when there was no technology when the only communication method was the flying pigeon. We haven’t experienced those days but can think of how beautiful that time used to be. It is a true fact that advanced technology has distanced us from our families and friends. We are excited about connecting to a stranger over social media but got no time to spend with the family. We can chat for hours on Facebook and Whatsapp but when we meet in person we have nothing to talk about. Somewhere the technology has dissolved all the emotions. We are happy because we have a cellphone, a laptop, and a tablet. Our forefathers were happy to have a single television in the entire neighborhood.
We are physically better than our ancestors due to improved lifestyle and nutrition. But spiritually we aren’t happy. Mentally we are running in a race of millions.
Conclusion: In terms of technology, yes we are happy. But in terms of peace, we are not. On some basis, there were happier and on some basis, we are happier.

Note: In such type of questions, think of the time, the ancient and the current. Compare what they had and what we lack.
