Complete answer: The Shiwalik range is the outermost range of the Himalayas and the Shivalik Hills also known as Churia Hills. This range stretched from the Indus river to the Brahmaputra river which spans across the northern part of the Indian subcontinent. Their widths are 10-15 km and have a height varying between 900 to 1100 metres. Rivers coming from the Himalayan range brought consolidated sediments with them which later composed and further resulted in the formation of Shiwaliks.
They are covered with thick gravel and aluminium. Between the lesser Himalayas and Shiwaliks, there is a longitudinal valley known as Duns. Some of the well - known duns are the Dehradun, Patli Dun and Kotli Dun.
Remains of the palaeolithic culture known as Soaninan culture found in the Shivalik region. The Soanian culture named after the Soan Valley. These hills are also among the richest fossil sites of large animals. It revealed that all kinds of animals lived here like sloth bears, ancient Giraffe and giant tortoise.

Note: It is believed that the name Shiwalik comes from the Sanskrit word meaning belonging to Lord Shiva. As mentioned above it is known as Churia Range in Nepal.
