Hint: Magnet means a piece of iron or any other materials which has its component atoms so that the material exhibits properties of magnetism. By properties of magnetism, we mean attracting other iron-containing objects or align itself in the presence of an external magnetic field.
Step by step answer:
Talking about two properties of the magnet, let us categorize the two properties into an attractive property and a repulsive property.
By attractive property, we mean that magnets are known to attract ferromagnetic materials such as iron, cobalt, and nickel. A beautiful feature of the magnet can also be seen between two oppositely magnetic poles of the magnet. That is between the north pole of one magnet and the south pole of another magnet.
Then comes the repulsive property of magnet. Like magnetic poles always repel each other and unlike magnetic poles attract each other as already mentioned. This means that the north pole of one magnet will repel the north pole of another magnet when they are brought towards each other.
Additional Information:
There is another property of magnet, which is known as the directive property. The directive property of a magnet states that if a magnet is freely suspended, it will always point towards the north-south direction.
Note: Magnet is also known as a material that can produce its magnetic field. Two kinds of magnets are temporary and permanent.
By permanent magnets, we mean that they have atoms aligned all the time, and therefore they show the property of magnetism throughout. However temporary magnets have their atoms aligned only while the materials are under the influence of a strong external magnetic field.
