Hint:To solve this question, first we will se what actually 12 – hour format is and how we see time in 12-hour format. After that, we will see what does small hand and long hand denotes in the clock and then in the figure, we will see where the small hand and minute hand are pointing. Then we will write time in 12-hour format.

Before we solve this question, let us see what is are the different type of format to represent time and what is the minute and hour hand of the clock.
The large hand on a clock that points to the minutes is called the minute hand of clock and the small hand of the clock which points to hours is called the hour hand of the clock.
We can represent time in clock by two formats, one is 24 – hour format and another is 12 – hour format.
In, 24 hour format, we show each hour starting from 0 to 1 and then so to 12 to 13 and so to 23 and ending to 0 and minutes by 0 to 59 or we can say that 24 – hour format is the convention of timekeeping in which the day runs from midnight to midnight and is divided into 24 hours.
On other hand, 12-hour clock is the way of dividing the 24 hours of the day into two sections. The two halves are called ante meridiem ( A.M ) and post meridiem ( P.M ) and numbers from 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
For, example 10:00 A.M is 12-hour format, and the same time in 24 - hour format is 10:00 and 1:00 P.M is time in 12-hour format and the same time in 24 – hour format is 13:00.

Now, from figure, we can see that small hand or hour hand points toward 8, and longhand or minute hand points toward 12.
So, in 12 – format we can say that whether the time is 8:00 A.M in morning or 8:00 P.M in night.

Note:
 Always remember the difference between 24-hour format and 12-hour format. Also, remember that the long hand of the clock points toward minutes in clock and the small hand of clock points toward the hour in the clock. Between each consecutive number, the difference is of 5 minutes.
