RD Sharma Class 10 Maths Real Numbers Solutions - Free PDF Download

Numerical literacy is arguably one of the most important skills we have; it is what allows us to make decisions based on facts, and appreciate art and science for their beauty and meaning. It has been considered a cornerstone in education since the Greeks introduced modern geometry as early as 600 BC.

The definitions of real numbers are different depending on who you ask. Some mathematicians think that the set of real numbers is just the set of all rational and irrational numbers, while others will say that it is just the set of rational numbers.

RD Sharma is an Indian mathematician popularly known as the "Maths man." To help students prepare for their board exams, he has put together a comprehensive workbook that covers ten areas of mathematics. First of all, students need to identify the topics they want to cover. They can then decide which chapters from this textbook will suit them best and begin practising. Those who are in a hurry can go over the sections covered in class X and XII books and try preparing them on their own too.

FAQs on RD Sharma Solutions for Class 10 Maths Chapter 1 - Real Numbers

1. What is a real number according to RD Sharma class 10 Maths?

A real number is a value of a continuous quantity that can represent a distance along a line. It is a value we use to quantify things. An integer on the other hand includes a whole number without a decimal point that is either positive integers (1, 2, 3...) or negative integers (-1,-2,-3...). Numbers that include decimal points (3.14) or fractions (5/7) do not count as being whole numbers but can be considered as real numbers.

2. What is the use of real numbers?

Real numbers are widely used in geometry to measure lengths, breadths, and depths. Along with distance measurement, they are also used to measure other quantities like mass, time, speed, energy and many more. For example, your room has a length of 10 feet (3.048 m), a breadth of 10 feet (3.048 m), and a depth of 5 feet (1.524 m). These measurements are represented in real numbers.

3. According to RD Sharma class 10 Maths, what is an irrational number?

A term that is used to describe any real value that cannot be written as a ratio of two whole numbers is known as an irrational number. For example, π (3.141 592...) is an irrational number since it cannot be written as the ratio of one whole number to another (e.g., not 3/11). A rational number on the other hand can always be written as exactly two whole numbers divided by each other, like 1/10 or 43/99.
