A quadrilateral is obtained by folding four line segments together. RD Sharma Solution for class 6 Maths Chapter 13 - Quadrilateral includes the important formulas, types of quadrilaterals, and important questions with examples. Vedantu has RD Sharma textbook Solution pdf that has solved questions by experts in the Mathematics field on Vedantu.com. The quadrilateral chapter is the major phase of geometry that has to be explained in the best way possible. The solution designed by the Vedantu’s faculty improves the thinking process of the students as well as increases their problem-solving ability.

A closed shape figure and a four-sided polygon, with four angles and four vertices, is called a Quadrilateral. The sum of the interior angles altogether is 360 degrees. The word ‘Quadri’ is derived from a Latin word ‘Quadra’ that means four and ‘lateral’ refers to ‘sides’ that means a four-sided figure.

Types of Quadrilateral for Class - 6 students

As all the angles together sum to 360 degrees, the types of a quadrilateral are based on the length of sides and measurement of an angle. The types of quadrilateral are listed below-

  • Rhombus - In a rhombus all four sides of the same measure, opposite sides are parallel to each other, opposite angles are equal.

  • Trapezium - In a trapezium one pair of opposite sides are parallel, two adjacent sides are supplementary, diagonals bisect each other at the same ratio.

  • Square - In a square all sides are equal, the sides are parallel to each other, and all angles are equal to 90 degrees i.e. right angles.

  • Parallelogram - In a parallelogram all sides are of the same length, opposite sides are parallel, diagonal bisects each other.

  • Rectangle - In rectangles opposite sides are of equal length, opposite sides are parallel to each other and all angles are equal to 90 degrees.

  • Kite - In a kite pair of adjacent sides are equal in length, one pair of opposite angles are equal, the largest diagonal bisects the smallest diagonal.

Properties of Quadrilateral for Class - 6 students

  • Each quadrilateral has four sides

  • Each quadrilateral has four vertices

  • Every quadrilateral has two opposite and adjacent angles

  • Every quadrilateral has two opposite and adjacent sides

  • There are four vertices, four sides, and four angles in a quadrilateral

  • All interior angles together sum to 360 degrees

3. What is quadrilateral?

A quadrilateral is a closed figure that has four line segments, four edges, four angles, and four vertices. The word ‘Quadri’ is said to be derived from a Latin word ‘Quadra’ that means four and ‘lateral’ refers to ‘sides’ that means a four-sided figure. The interior angles together sum up to 360 degrees. The diagonals of a quadrilateral always bisect each other but can bisect at different points. Rhombus, Square, kite, parallelogram, trapezium, and rectangle are the types of quadrilateral.

4. What are the properties and types of the quadrilateral?

The properties of the quadrilateral are mentioned below-

  • Each quadrilateral has four sides

  • Each quadrilateral has four vertices

  • Every quadrilateral has two opposite and adjacent angles

  • Every quadrilateral has two opposite and adjacent sides

  • There are four vertices, four sides, and four angles in a quadrilateral

  • All interior angles together sum to 360 degrees

The types quadrilateral are mentioned below-

  • Rhombus - In a rhombus all four sides of the same measure, opposite sides are parallel to each other, opposite angles are equal.

  • Rectangle - In rectangles, opposite sides are of equal length, opposite sides are parallel to each other and all angles are equal to 90 degrees.
