The tenth chapter of RD Sharma deals with the topic of congruent triangles and is a very important one as it makes the students learn basic concepts related to the length and width of a triangle and how to understand if two triangles are congruent. These concepts form the foundation for future classes and hence extra attention must be paid to strengthen one’s understanding of them.

How to Conclude if Two Triangles are Congruent?

To find the answer, students need to measure the length of the sides of two different triangles, and also they have to measure at least two of their angles. If we assume that the length of the sides will be symbolized by S and the angles of the triangles will be symbolized by A, then the rule to identify two triangles as congruent is to match these two criteria of one triangle with another.

The Formula:

  • A triangle has three sides and three angles. If the length of the sides of one triangle (SSS) matches with the length of all the sides (SSS) of another triangle that means the two triangles are congruent.

  • If two of the angles (AA) of one triangle and the length of one side(S) match with the length of one side (S) and two angles (AA) of another triangle that means the triangles are congruent.

  • If the length of two sides (SS) of one triangle and the angle (A) between the two sides (S) of another triangle and the angle (A) between them, then it can be concluded that the two triangles are congruent.

FAQs on RD Sharma Class 9 Solutions Chapter 10 - Congruent Triangles Exercise 10.4 - Free PDF

1. What are the basic rules for identifying two triangles as congruent?

If there are two triangles and the students are asked to conclude if they are congruent or not, then they should know some basic rules. The students need to know the length of the sides and the measurement of the angles of the triangles to conclude. Three most popular rules are very important to consider when it comes to identifying two triangles as congruent:

  •  The first rule says that if the length of the sides of one triangle matches with another one, then there is a chance that the two triangles are congruent.

  • If two angles and a corresponding side of a triangle is similar to another triangle, then they are congruent triangles.

  • The last rule goes like two sides and the angle between them of one triangle should match with another.

2. Is there any trick to identify two congruent triangles?

The basic trick to identify two triangles as congruent is to find out if the length of the sides of two triangles matches with one another. Otherwise, there is another method to conclude by matching two angles and the length of one side of one triangle with these criteria of another triangle and the last and final things that the learners should consider to identify two triangles congruent are the lengths of two sides and the angle between them of one triangle and those should match with the same criteria of another triangle.

3. What are those properties that two triangles must possess to be congruent?

The most important properties that two triangles should possess are the similar length of the sides and correspondence between the interior angles of the two triangles. One triangle may seem to be the mirror image of another triangle but the easiest way to identify the triangles are congruent triangles is to find out if the length of their sides matches with each other. The students can easily find out the similarity between the length of the sides of the two triangles and it will make their task easier and the next thing that they should do is to measure the angle between two sides of both triangles and then they can conclude based on the results.

4. Is learning the concepts related to congruent triangles important?

The concept is introduced in the syllabus of the class 9 students for a particular reason. Chapter 10 that deals with the subject of congruent triangles and the exercises help the student to learn a few basic things related to the length and measuring the angles. By learning the concepts regarding the congruent triangles now, the students can have a fairly good idea of how to recognise two different triangles as the mirror image of one another and how to find out the resemblances and similarities between two different triangles.

5. Can the students take help from the RD Sharma Solutions that can clarify their doubts related to the subject of congruent triangles?

Yes, the students can take help from the above-mentioned papers that consist of a detailed overview of the topic with various examples and explanations. Since this is the digital era, the students prefer to get access to those documents that are available on Vedantu and having a printout of these documents will also help them to keep a reference of the things they have learned. The solved examples and the question papers will help them in preparing better for the examinations.
