लेखक के बारे में

माखनलाल चतुर्वेदी का जन्म 4 अप्रैल 1889 को मध्य प्रदेश के होशंगाबाद जिले के बाबई गाँव में हुआ। वे बचपन से ही साहित्य और समाजसेवा में रुचि रखते थे। उन्होंने 16 वर्ष की उम्र में अध्यापन का कार्य आरंभ किया, लेकिन स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के प्रति उनका झुकाव उन्हें पत्रकारिता की ओर ले गया। उन्होंने 'प्रभा' और 'कृष्णार्जुन' जैसी पत्रिकाओं का संपादन किया।

वे भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में सक्रिय रूप से भाग लेने वाले कवि-कार्यकर्ता थे। उनकी रचनाएँ राष्ट्रप्रेम और मानवता की भावना से भरपूर हैं। माखनलाल चतुर्वेदी को उनकी रचना 'हिमतरंगिनी' के लिए साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार भी मिला। वे कई बार स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के दौरान जेल गए। उनका निधन 30 जनवरी 1968 को हुआ।
