Sample Question Paper for English Language and Literature Class 10

As usual, the question paper starts with two unseen passages carrying a total of 20 marks. The first passage will be a discursive passage having a word limit of 400-450 from which 12 questions will be asked out of which the student has to answer any ten having one mark each. The second passage will be of 300-350 words to test scrutiny and interpretation which will be a case-based passage with factual data, numerical or otherwise. 


Part B of the question paper which forms the subjective answers part, accounts for a total of 40 marks. In part B, the writing section carries 10 marks. There will be two questions in the writing section. The first will be to write a formal letter based on two cases from which the student can choose one. This formal letter writing has 5 marks. The second question is to write an analytical passage based on case studies, numerical data, charts and bar graphs. The student can choose one of the two options and write the answer in 100-200 words for 5 marks. 


The second section of Part B is the Literature section which carries 30 marks. The literature section has four main questions with many sub-questions. The first question will have six questions from which the student has to select and write 4. Each question carries 2 marks each and it is to be written in 20-30 words each. The second question has a total of six sub-questions from which the students can select any 4 to be written in 40-50 words for 3 marks each. In addition to these, there are two five-mark questions from each of the textbooks.

1. What is the most ideal way to score good marks in English Language and Literature?

Students must prepare efficiently for their exams by reading the chapters thoroughly and going through revision notes.
