Summary of the Balarama and Pralambasura Story

Once upon a time, both Krishna and Balarama were engaged in their pastimes. They were playing games, and a devil named Pralambasura entered the company of the two siblings. He wanted to kidnap both Krishna and Balarama. Krishna was playing the role of a cowherd boy. Krishna was the supreme personality of God and he could understand everything. Krishna knew about the past, present, and future.

When Pralambasura came, Krishna started thinking about how to defeat the devil. However, Krishna treated him as a friend. He told the devil that it was great that he had come to get involved in the game. Krishna called all his friends and told them that they would play in pairs. All the boys assembled with this proposal. Some boys took the side of Krishna whereas, some boys took the side of Balrama.

They started playing the game in a duel. The members who were defeated in the duel fighting had to carry the victorious members on their backs. All the boys started playing and, at the same time, tended the cows as they moved through the forest of Bhandirvan.

The party of Balrama, which had Sridama and Vrasbha, became victorious. The party of Krishna had to carry them on their back through the forest of Bhandirvan. Krishna, who was the supreme personality of God had to carry Sridama on his back all the way along and Bhadrasena had to carry Vrasbha. Imitating the play played by the boys, Pralambasura, who appeared as a cowherd boy, carried the courageous Balarama on his back. Pralambasura was a great devil, and through his wit, he came to know that Krishna was the most powerful among all the cowherd boys.

To avoid the company of Krishna, Pralambasura carried his brother Balarama away. The devil was very strong and powerful. He began to feel the burden and came back to his original form. When the devil appeared in his actual form, he was decorated with earrings and a golden helmet, and he looked like a cloud with lightning that carried the moon. The body of the devil was expanding up to the clouds and Balarama noticed this.

The eyes of the demon were dazzling like the blazing fire, and the mouth of the demon was flashing with sharpened teeth. Balarama was shocked at seeing the appearance of the devil. Later, he thought about how the demon had changed its form suddenly. Balarama knew that the devil was carrying his friends away from him intending to kill him.

Balarama struck the head of the devil with his strong fist just like the king of the planet struck the mountain with their thunderbolt. The devil fell dead just like a snake with a head that was smashed, and blood was coming out from his mouth when he was struck by the strong fist of Balarama. The devil made a loud sound when he fell. The sound was similar to the sound made by a great hill falling on being struck by a thunderbolt.

The boys were shocked and rushed to the spot immediately after hearing the sound. The boys were astonished by seeing the scene and they praised Balarama for his courage and his dauntless spirit. All the boys embraced Balarama with love and affection. They thought that Balarama had returned from death. The boys offered their congratulations and blessings. All the gods on the heavenly planet became satisfied and they showered flowers on Balarama. The devils also offered their blessings and congratulations on Balarama for killing the great devil Pralambasura.
