The story of Draupadi shows that Draupdi’s birth was completely different from the rest. She was born out of the holy fire of a yagna. When king Drupada wished for a fierce warrior to kill Drona, he conducted a yagna. But when Drupada’s wife, the queen, was offered prasad, she told the sages to wait. The sages got angry and threw the prasad into the fire. Draupadi was born from that fire. Due to the birth of Draupadi, she was known to be famous as the destroyer of evil.
Thousands of years ago, King Drupada and Acharya Drona were enemies. Both of them wanted to defeat each other but could not. One day, king Drupada decided to conduct a yagna to be blessed with a fierce and powerful son who could kill Acharya Drona.
He asked two sages to conduct a yagna to get blessed with a son.
When the sages completed the yagna, they offered prasad to everyone. When they came to offer the prasad to king Drupada’s wife, she already had something in her mouth. So she asked them to wait.
The sages got angry for being told to wait. At first, Yaja, a sage, put the prasad into the fire. Suddenly a young warrior emerged from that fire. Upayaja, another sage, too, threw the prasad into the fire after getting angry. When Upayaja threw the prasad into the fire, a beautiful woman emerged from the fire too.
As soon as the beautiful woman came out of that fire, everyone heard a voice from the sky. The voice said, “the woman is born to be the reason for the destruction of evil in this world.”
This woman was later renowned as Draupadi, the daughter of king Drupada and the young warrior was called Dhristadyumna.
