The Moon was young and beautiful. She shone every night in the sky giving light to all. Sometimes, she took a rest and for the rest of the month, she shone all night until the Sun came out.
The Moon used to watch the earth from the deep sky at night. One day, she saw small tiny people coming out of their homes at night. She was fascinated to see those small people in beautiful dresses.
She wondered how these dresses are so colourful. Since that day, she started to follow people with such dresses. She noticed that their dresses changed every day and they look very pretty in them.
The Moon is Happy to See People on Earth Wearing Colourful Clothes
Nights passed, and she grew quite fond of the colour dresses people wore every day. She was so happy to see them in such colourful attire and wanted one for herself. She thought, “I want to look pretty and beautiful as those people are wearing such dresses.”
One night, she was about to go to sleep as the Sun was coming up, she asked her mother, “Mother! Have you seen the people on earth? They are so beautiful. Do you know they wear new colourful dresses every day and look so pretty?”
Her mother replied, “Yes! I have seen them.”
She said, “Mother! I want one. Can you give me full clothes like humans have?”
Her mother listened to her patiently without replying. She continued, “Please mother! I just want a cloak made of rainbow fabric and colours.” Her mother did not say a word.
She begged, “Please mother, I really want one. Please.”
Her mother could not hold herself anymore and said, “Sorry dear! I cannot give you one.”
She asked, “But, why?”
Her mother replied, “It is because humans don’t change their shape rapidly but you do. You change your shape every month. Sometimes you are thin and sometimes you are full. No cloth can fit you.”
The moon released her mother. How can clothes fit her if she is not consistent with her shape? She went to bed sad that day but eventually realised her beauty and shone every night since then.
The Moon is Sad for Not Being Able to Wear Colourful Clothes
The moral of this edition of the Fables about the Moon is that one should not change constantly as he will not be able to achieve something. It means a person has to be determined and dedicated to his aim to achieve something.
Another moral of the story is one should not be sad to see someone else’s possession. The Moon was not jealous but she wanted clothes like the people on the Earth. She should have considered her position first. Because her unreasonable demand was not fulfilled, she was sad.
This edition of the Moon Fables explains how the young Moon wants colourful clothing from her mother. Read the story and explain why the Moon cannot get what she wants. Explain the hidden life lesson to the kids and describe how the mother convinced her daughter.
1. Why was the moon unable to get colourful clothing?
She does not have a constant shape. She changes her shape every day and any clothing item will not fit her.
2. How did the Moon Mother convince her daughter?
The Moon’s mother said to her that she cannot wear a cloak or any dress as she does not stick to a particular shape. Her ever-changing shape makes it difficult to wear a dress.
3. Does the Moon appear every night?
No. She disappears on some nights and appears again. It happens every month.
