The Man Who Committed a Crime

This is a story about Jeff, my neighbour. He is a good man but had to commit something he did not want to. He loves his wife and daughter too much. Maybe the love for his family made him do so.

He is a kind-hearted man with a lot of dreams. He wanted to do well to keep his wife and daughter happy. He embezzled money from a charity he is linked to. He wanted to become rich as fast as possible. He has seen what poverty is in his bad days and did not want his family to do the same.

He did not want to do this crime. He stole money from a charity that takes care of orphans. The orphans loved him and called him Uncle Jeff. How could he do that to them? I guess he was forced by circumstances.

No matter what the circumstances are, one cannot steal after watching the innocent faces of the orphans. Is he an animal? Does he not have compassion?

These questions lurked in his mind for days. He was unable to sleep. He thought and said to him, “To make my family happy, I ruined the orphans’ lives. What am I?”

His Erratic Decision

He was hesitant to return the money as he would get caught doing the transaction. What can he do? He was so ashamed of himself that he decided to commit suicide.

When no one was at home, he called the office and told others he was sick and taking a day off. He gathered a strong rope and hung it on a ceiling fan. He made a knot and was desperate to end his life.

The moment he put the loop around his neck, his eyes fell on the lovely photo of his daughter and wife. They were smiling at him with their lovely eyes.

He broke down and cried profusely. How can he leave them in this cruel world with an embarrassment to live with? He could not find anything else to do. Tears rolled down his eyes. He started recollecting the good times he spent with his family.
