The Colours of Life

Once, all the colours decided to find out which one of them is the most important. They quarrelled with each other and argued.

The green colour said, “Green depicts life. I am the most important. Grass, leaves, trees, vegetables, etc are all green. Without me, all the animals will die.”

Blue argued and said, “You might be right but can you grow without rain? I am the sky. I am the sea. Without me, there will be no clouds. Without me, green will not be able to survive. I also represent peace, unending sky and serenity.”

Red and blue are arguing who is best

Yellow smirked and said, “These colours are so serious. I am bright and jolly. My colour makes flowers more attractive. I am the sun and I am the day. I make people smile and animals happy.”

The orange was listening to all these colours. He said, “I am the colour of strength and health. I am scarce but I am present in the most important things. You can find me in flowers, papayas, oranges, mangoes, etc. I represent nutrition and sunrise.”

In the meantime, red was making his case. He said, “I represent blood and it is life. I am the sign of bravery and danger. I also represent anger. I am also the colour that represents passion.”

Indigo heard what red said. He waited for a few seconds and told everyone, “Imagine this. I am silent and my colour represents silence. You will hardly find me anywhere but I am there. Without me, it is all superficial. You will not be able to survive without me. I also represent deep water, deep thoughts, reflection, and twilight.”

Purple said, “I am the colour of royalty. You have seen it in the robes of the kings and emperors. I am rare to find in the plant and animal kingdoms and that makes me unique. I also represent wisdom and authority. I am chosen when something great is initiated. I make a person strong and a flower prominent.”

The Rain Appears

All the colours were boasting of their characteristics and achievements. They wanted to prove who is superior to whom.

Nobody noticed that rain had come. The rain started to speak to all the colours, “You stupid colours. You are quarrelling for no reason. You all make the world equally beautiful. You all are important.”

The rain continued, “Do you know why you are different? Because you are unique and are made for certain purposes. A colour’s purpose cannot be fulfilled by the other.”

He added, “Do you know you can make things much bigger than what you are doing individually? You can achieve it if you join hands and make everyone proud.”
