The Short Story of a Bad Girl

This is a beautiful story of a girl that does not care for anything. Her mind is inquisitive and she always tries to find an answer. The other girls in the village did not like her but it did not matter to her. She also asked weird questions to the people she knew and saw. One day, everything changed. What happened to her? How did she change? What made her change? Find out by reading this story.

The Bad Little Girl

Once upon a time, there was a girl who lived in a house with her grandmother. The house was at the edge of a village near the grassland. She was one weird little child who did not care about anything. She made faces by putting her tongue out to other people and did not care what they would think of her. The people also did not care about her and didn't notice her either.

It did not matter to her what everyone else thought. She was happy with herself. The only thing that bothered her was the wooden cuckoo bird imprisoned in the forehead of a clock. She watched how the cuckoo bird came out of the prison every hour and said its name as many times as the time showed on the clock.

She wondered what the cuckoo bird had done to be imprisoned. She wondered why the clock had to carry a huge cupboard on its forehead with a bird in it. She wondered and wondered.

The Other Village Girls

She always watched the clock whenever it was ready to strike. One day her grandmother said, “You always think of the clock. Only if you cared and thought about me sometimes!” The girl said, “Why would I care about you? Are you sick? Do you have a bird living in your head like the clock?” The granny had no answer to these questions.

She wondered what if the bird inside the clock was released outside and it could sing even better. One day, she was playing outside. She saw a group of young girls picking flowers and making a crown. She asked, “What are these flowers for?”

They answered, “It is the youngest girl’s birthday today. We are going to play with her and enjoy ourselves.”

She asked, “Is she unhappy?”

They said, “No, she is very happy. We want to make her happier.”

She asked, “Why?” They said, “We love her. She is little, and she is cute. That is why.”

She asked again, “Should we care for everything alive?” They did not answer this time and went away.

The Realisation of the Little Girl

She kept asking the same questions. Suddenly the grass and trees answered her questions. They said, “You should care for everything. Alive or not! They all have purposes and so do you.”

Something struck her mind. She realised what her grandmother said about caring for her. She went back home. It was 11 O’clock. Her grandmother was sleeping. She kissed her grandmother’s forehead and knelt holding her hands. She realised how much her grandmother cared for her even though she didn’t.
