1. Describe Nishad’s character.

Ans: Nishad is a considerate and kind child. He did not forget all the things his mother and Ramesh had told him about Mr Nath and believed them. His perception of Mr Nath relied on the perception his mother had about him. He did not like how Mr Nath was so thin and lean and thought that he might be starving so Nishad goes and gives Mr Nath a bar of chocolate. Nishad refused to call Mr Nath a crook only on the opinion his sister had made about him even after being insisted by her. Nishad befriends Mr Nath.


2. What were the points that Maya collected about Mr Nath? 

Ans: Maya collected the following points about Mr Nath-

They only knew him as Mr Nath so they must find out his first name. He lives in Room no. 10 in Shankar’s house. Other tenants that lived in Shankar’s house called him mad and unfriendly and were scared of him. Mr Nath lacked manners and didn’t speak with anyone. He never went to work and stayed home all day. Mr Nath doesn’t receive letters either. Only one visitor came to meet him every Sunday. He asked Ramesh to bring his food from the restaurant downstairs on Sunday and Mr Nath didn’t seem to be bothered about it much. He also paid Ramesh and tipped him too.

Ans:  Maya is a ten-year-old girl. She is the elder sister of Nishad whom she calls seven. Maya and Nishad both are very curious children and want to learn things. In the story, they are more curious about Mr Nath, who is their neighbour. However, Maya has a detective ideology about him. According to her Mr Nath could be a detective and is hiding from the police. She thinks of Mr Nath as a poor, friendless person. And that there is someone who helped Mr Nath in his crimes and the person visits him every Sunday to give him his share. She didn’t want to think about him. As per her, Mr Nath was hiding something and behaved strangely.

Ans: Mr Nath is a neighbour of Nishad and Maya. He lives at Shankar’s house and lives in room no. 10. In the story, his neighbours are afraid of him and think of him as an unfriendly person. He doesn’t go out and meet people. He only has one visitor only on Sundays. Some people were suspicious of him. Maya thought of him as a crook, while her brother Nishad thought of him as a nice person, and their mother thought of him as a polite man. Ramesh thought of him as a strange man but good as Mr Nath always paid him and tipped him for doing his work. Each person in the story has a different perception of Mr Nath.

He realized that he is a nice man and not some kind of crook. They trust him and believe in him.
