NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) conducted by the National Council of Education Research and Technology (NCERT), is a scholarship test conducted for identifying the bright students wanting to pursue their Higher Education in Science and Social Science. Application Form and Eligibility Criteria for NTSE - Uttar Pradesh 

The application form can be downloaded from the official website of Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (www.upbasiceducationboard.in).


For this, the candidates have to attach a deposit bank payslip (₹50- General candidates, ₹30- ST/SC candidates) along with the form payable to the authorities. 


The criteria’s to be fulfilled for the exam purpose are- 

  1. All Class X students are eligible for the stage 1 examinations. There are no geographical restrictions as such. 

  2. ODL are eligible, given that they are below 18 years, not employed, and are appearing on the boards for the first time.


Admit Card for UP NTSE

All candidates can download their admit cards from the official website, and it is a very crucial document that all students must have with themselves during the examination. 


Examination Pattern and Mock Tests 

There are two stages, having two tests- MAT and SAT. There are a total of 100 questions, one mark each, and a total duration of 120 minutes is allotted. 


Candidates must take mock tests to ensure that they have a fair idea about the examination pattern.

Cut off for the UP NTSE examinations will be available on the official website and candidates can check their results based on the same. It is released after the results are declared.

1. Are appearing for Mock tests important for NTSE? 

All candidates appearing for NTSE Stage 1 and Stage 2 examinations are advised to take mock tests. It is extremely helpful in getting a complete idea about the exam pattern and candidates can study as per the sams. Moreover, it helps in managing time for answering the questions in the test, revising all the topics that are covered, discovering the areas of strengths and weaknesses for different subjects, and managing any fear and stress which may arise on the examination day. 

2. What is the selection process for NTSE?

The National Talent Search Examination is conducted in two stages- Stage 1 and Stage 2. Stage 1 is a state level examination that comprises two parts- Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Stage 2 is a national level exam for which only candidates who have cleared Stage 1 examination are eligible to write. It is usually conducted by The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on the second Sunday of May every year. 

3. Is there a negative marking in NTSE? 

Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the NTSE exam will comprise about 200 questions which carry 1 mark for every question. All candidates will be given 120 minutes for each part of both the levels of examination except the visually challenged candidates who will be given 150 minutes for the sections. The total duration of each level is about 240 minutes. However, there is no negative marking for NTSE and 1 mark will be added for every answer which is correct. 

4. Are questions repeated in NTSE? 

For the stage 1 level of NTSE, there are no chances of repetition of questions from the previous year. However, the difficulty level and the type of questions remains the same each year. Candidates are advised to solve sample papers and previous years questions. This is important as it helps in time management, improving critical thinking skills, pointing out lacking points, as well as strengthening the basics of the student. For all candidates appearing for NTSE, objective type questions must be practised. 

5. Is revision important for NTSE? 

Practising and revising regularly is crucial for every exam. For candidates appearing for NTSE, revision is very essential. The importance of revision is that it helps candidates recall Facts, Figures, Topics and methodologies and helps boost confidence which in turn helps students perform well on the day of examination.
