ABP Full Form

ABP full form, Ananda Bazar Patrika News is a popular Hindi news channel owned by the ABP group. It is a free-to-air television channel established in 1998. It was earlier known as Star News being acquired by the ABP group. ABP network also owned ABP Live, an Indian English news website. It is also available on a youtube channel owned by the ABP network and its youtube name channel is ABP news.

ABP News History

Star News was launched on February 18, 1988. Star news became a completely independent channel in 2003. It was the first bilingual (English-Hindi) news service and was completely managed by STAR India on its own with NDTV doing the production until 2003. When the agreement between Star News and NDTV expired in 2003, Star news was completely transformed into a Hindi language news channel, part of the Star and ABP tied up.

Star News decided to run the channel on its own when its contract with the NDTV expired in 2003. However, the government introduced a guideline to limit foreign equity in the News business to 20%. Star further entered into a joint venture with the Ananda Bazar Patrika group to form a company known as Media Content And Communications Service Pvt. Ltd. which operated the channel Star News. In this Joint Venture, Start owned 26% whereas Ananda Bazar Patrika Group owned 74%.

On April 16, 2012, the Anand Bazar Patrika group declared that they would split, enabling the Rupert - Murdoch managed company to withdraw from the news business in India to turn to the environment. This split led to the end of eight years of affiliation with the Star brand. The company  Media Content and Communication that owned and operated the news channel said that after the split, Hindi News channel Star News would be named as ABP News, Star Ananda - Bengali news channel would be named as ABP Ananda, and Star Majha - the Marathi news channel would be named as ABP Majha. A Punjabi language version of the channel called ABP Sanjha is famous with the Northern Punjabi audience and the Gujarat language - version channel called ABP Asmita was launched on January 1, 2016.

Avinash Pandey became the COO of ABP News Network on November 1, 2016.

Almost all the ABP channels (including ABP news) were slowly overhauled throughout the second half of 2020, starting with the renaming of the parent-subsidiary ABP News network to the ABP network in 2020. An advance rebranding, through which the channels were affected by themselves, took place in the morning of December 16, 2020, with simplified and more modern logos and a new graphic package launched by Saffron Brand Consultants which is institutionalized for all ABP network channels. 

ABP News Logo

ABP network had unveiled new logos for all its channels and digital networks in December 2020. Through this new logo, the ABP group wants to represent the fearlessness, dynamism and thought leadership of channels. It also aims to exhibit the brand's relationship with the nation and its people.

The new logo of ABP channels and networks better captures the purpose of the network. The ABP channel's new logo is a direct representation of the channel vision of fearless news reporting and limitless ability to inspire people, spark imaginations and enlighten minds. The ABP new logo stands as a testimony to channel the relentless pursuit of truth beyond limits. The new arrow in our refreshed logo breaks free from a realistic static framework to make itself better suited for the fast-evolving media landscape.

The complete rebranding, including the new logo, has been developed by Saffron Brand Consultants. It is an independent global brand consultancy based in Madrid, Spain. Prof. Fiona Ross, who has a long-standing relationship with ABP, has developed the work mark and taglines of the new logo. 

Prof. Fiona Ross has designed its first digital Bengali font (Linotype Bengali, now known as ABP Bengali) with Tim Holloway, first published in 1982 in its nominative newspaper Ananda Bazar Patrika.
