In the year 2016, HTC began to diversify its own business, they extended its production beyond smartphones, having partnered with Valve in order to produce a virtual reality platform which is known as HTC Vive. HTC could somehow sell roughly half of its design and research talent, non-exclusive rights to smartphone-related intellectual property to Google in the year 2017 for US$1.1 billion after collaborating with it in its Pixel smartphone.

The company is dedicated and thereby it invested in their research and development department, this accounts for a quarter for their employees. The company has its North American headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. HTC runs its software-designed office in Seattle, which is near their North American headquarters. In this software-designed office, the company designs its own interface for their phones. Clash with Apple Inc. 

In the year 2010, in March, Apple Inc. filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission where the company claimed infringement of 20 of their patents covering the aspects of iPhone user interface and their hardware. To this, HTC disagreed with Apple. HTC reiterated its commitment to creating its innovative smartphones.

Next, HTC also filed a complaint against the company Apple for infringing on five of its patents and it also sought to ban the import of the products of Apple into the US from the manufacturing facilities in Asia. Apple also expanded its original complaint by adding two more patents with it. 

On the year 2012, 10th of November, Apple and HTC reached a 10-year license agreement where they covered the current and future patents that are being held by these two companies. Although, the terms of the agreement remain confidential.

Previously, Apple ignored HTC's long-held rights over the trade name called Touch by calling its new iPod range the same.
