ITIL Long Form

It is a framework that is designed to include the entire lifecycle of IT including planning & selection as well as delivery and maintenance. If we talk about ITIL full form then it simply refers to the "Information Technology Infrastructure Library". It is a bundle of explained information for IT departments like IT service management (ITSM) and IT asset management (ITAM). Their main focus is on how they need to meet aligned services with the business requirements. About ITIL Full Form

In ITIL, we came to know about the processing, procedures, pending work and to check the list which is organization-specific or technology-specific. But it was owned by AXELOS, a venture between the Capita and UK Cabinet Office. The licenses which are given by AXELOS are used for ITIL intellectual projects, license exams institute and it sees the updates to the framework. The licence is not required for the organization that implements the ITIL internally.  


ITIL Certification Full Form

ITIL helps in providing IT services that are essential for the business. It provides a proper framework for the management of IT services. If we talk about the ITIL certification full form, it refers to the certifications provided by the ITIL such as ITIL Intermediate Certifications, ITIL Expert and ITIL Master Certifications. Each course has sets of various certifications. 


History

When dependencies on IT were increasing in the 1980s, the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA)  of the UK Government developed various recommendations in order to standardize the management practices of the IT across the various functions of the government and built a model-based view of controlling as well as managing operations. CCTA was merged in 2001 with OGC i.e Office of Government Commerce which was the office of the treasury of the UK. In 2006, ITIL Version 2 whereas in 2007, Version 3 was launched. 

This 2007 version has 26 processes as well as functions which are grouped into 5 volumes. This version is now known as ITIL 2007 Edition. It was announced by the OGC to withdraw the Version 2 Certification. In 2011, the new edition was published which was the update of the 2007 version. After that OGC consolidated into the Cabinet Office and thus no longer remained the owner of ITIL. In 2019, Edition 4 started with the ITIL Foundation Book. 


ITIL Process Full Form or Stages

If we talk about the ITIL process full form, it simply refers to the various processes of the ITIL Volumes. The various stages of ITIL version 3 and Version 2 are given below:

ITIL Processes According to ITIL V3

The 5 stages of the ITIL Version 3 focuses on the specific phase of the lifecycle of the services: 

  • Service Strategy

Process objective: The strategy to serve the customers starts from the customer's needs and the marketplace. The function of the service strategy is to see which services an IT organization wants and which capabilities need to be developed. Its main goal is to make the organization think and act strategically.

  • Service Design

Process Objective: In this stage, we look after the design and pattern of the new IT services. It includes the design of new services, talk about their changes and improvements which are already in work.

  • Service Transition

Process Objective: Service Transition is required to build and use IT services. It also keeps the thing in mind that changes to services and processes of management are taking out in a coordinated way.

  • Service Operation

Process Objective: In this stage, it includes fulfilling user requests, solving service failures, fixing problems and as well as carrying out routine operational tasks in this service operations. It is done to make sure that the services of IT are delivered effectively and efficiently.

  • Continual Service Improvement-CSI

Process Objective:  Its main focus is to continuously improve the service of IT so that they can be delivered efficiently and effectively,  under the concept of continual improvement adopted in ISO 20000. It is a method used in order to learn from past successes and failures.

ITIL Processes According to ITIL Version 2

The ITIL Version 2 consists of two stages and was not organised as Version 3. The stages are given below:

  • Service Support

It provides all the processes and ideas which are necessary for the management of service interruptions and changes in the implementation and the IT services are guaranteed in this way. 

  • Service Delivery

The ITIL Discipline Service Delivery makes sure that rules are made for the operative processes that are in existence. It formulated the plan's contractual and financial topics.


Criticism

Researchers have seen the benefits of ITIL implementation. But it has been criticised on several fronts that include:

  • For non-commercial users, books are not affordable.

  • Special training is required for the implementation and accreditation.

  • Under BSM or ITSM frameworks, the debate over ITIL is falling.

  • The details of the organization do not line up with the other works like ITSM.

SIAM refers to Service Integration and Management which is a multiple suppliers services management approach that manages all kinds of services including business as well as information technology services. It helps in integrating all the services in order to fulfil the requirements of the business. If we talk about ITIL, it helps in providing a strong foundation that helps in the implementation of the SIAM as it covers all the processes of IT.
