The NTPC full form or NTPC long form stands for National Thermal Power Corporation. It is an electricity board under the Indian government. The company is primarily an electricity generation company along with other allied activities. Presently, NTPC full name is NTPC Ltd. Much akin to the long form of NTPC, the company is involved in the business of power or electricity generation. The company is presently owned by the Ministry of Power of the Government of India. NTPC was incorporated under the 1956 Companies Act. The NTPC full name was used formerly and the company now is mostly referred to as NTPC Limited. Headquartered in New Delhi, the company is not only is involved in the generation of electricity but also sells electricity to various Indian State Electricity Boards and other power distribution companies that are state-owned. 

NTPC Ltd. also takes up turnkey and consultancy projects involving construction management, project management, engineering and management, and operation of power plants. Presently, NTPC Ltd is the largest energy conglomerate in India. NTPC does not only concern itself with the generation of electricity from fossil fuels but also via renewable and nuclear sources of energy. This venture is meant to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases. The company has also strengthened its core business by diversifying into the fields of  power trading, rural electrification, ash utilization, coal mining, and training power professionals

A Brief History of NTPC

On November 7, 1975, NTPC was incorporated as a power generation company. Shri. D.V Kapur was appointed as the first Managing Director and Chairman of NTPC on March 19, 1976. The first project of NTPC was cleared by the government on December 8, 1976. It was a thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh’s Singrauli. It became a Navratna company in 1997. It became a listed company in November 2004 and subsequently, in 2005 the NTPC company full form was changed to NTPC Limited. The company signed an agreement in 2006 with Sri Lanka for setting up 2 units, each of 250 MW at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. It became a Maharatna company in May 2010. 

NTPC: Capacity and Generation

NTPC’s total installed capacity is 65,810 MW which includes the JVs. Of the total stations owned by the company excluding the JVs, coal-based are 24, 7 are gas-based, 13 are solar, 1 wind, 1 hydro, and 1 small hydro. Under JV, the company has 26 overall projects of which 9 are coal-based, 4 are gas-based and 13 are renewable energy projects. 

The efficiency levels of the NTPC power plants are very high. The company, as of March 31, 2020, holds 16.78 percent of the total national capacity.

The Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Platts raked NTPC Ltd in the 2nd position in the Top 250 Global Energy Company Rankings. In 2016, in the Forbes Global 2000, it was ranked in the 400th position.

NTPC RRB

The NTPC RRB full form stands for Non-Technical Popular Categories under the Railway Recruitment Board. It is a recruitment exam conducted by the Railway Board for the selection of candidates in graduate as well as no-graduate posts in various production units and Zonal Railways of Indian Railways. 

RRB NTPC recruitment is a multi-stage selection process. The different stages of the process are designed to assess intelligence as well as the physical fitness of the candidates. Candidates who are able to demonstrate exceptional performance are only recruited to the various posts of the Indian Railways.

Ans. The RRB CBT full form stands for the Railway Recruitment Board Computer Based Test. The RRB NTPC exam is conducted across the country across various centers. The exam comprises of various stages - The RRB CBT, CBAT or Computer Based Aptitude Test and/or Typing Skill Test (as applicable). The final stage is Document Verification and Medical Examination.

The RRB CBT exam is conducted in two stages, the details of which are as follows: 

First Stage RRB CBT

  • The exam is conducted in the online mode

  • The duration of the exam is 90 minutes

  • The questions of the exam are objective types comprising multiple-choice questions.

  • The questions are asked from the subjects of Mathematics, Reasoning, General Awareness, and General Intelligence.

  • The examination carries a total of 100 marks and negative marking is applicable for incorrect answers. 

Second Stage RRB CBT

  • Conducted in the online mode

  • The test duration is 90 minutes

  • The exam includes questions from the sections of - Mathematics, General Questions Awareness, General Intelligence, and Reasoning

  • The exam is conducted for a total of 120 marks and there is negative marking for incorrect answers. 

Candidates who are able to clear the first and second stages are required to appear for the CBAT and/or Typing Skill Test. The details of these exams are: 

CBAT comprises six test batteries and there is no negative marking involved. The Typing Skill Test is also computer-based where the candidates should be able to type 25 WPM (Words per Minute) in Hindi or 30 WPM in English.
