IIT Guwahati - Admission Process

To apply for any of the undergraduate courses at IIT Guwahati, candidates must procure the application form available at the official website of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. The application form has all the applicant's details along with the specialisation they wish to pursue, once they get admitted to the course.

IIT Guwahati offers a four-year B.Tech program which is a full-time course and only 10 distinct specialisations. The selection of the candidates is done on the basis of the JEE Advanced scores attained by the student. After Admission, students go through a counselling process which is conducted by the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority), on the basis of which seats are allotted to the students. On the basis of the institute’s cut-off and the preferences of the candidates for college and course, the seats are allotted. The registration for counselling begins in the third week of June in online mode.

Candidates should satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria for the UG program stream that they wish to apply for. The selection process begins with counselling students in the JoSAA (The Joint seat allocation authority) counselling process. JoSAA conducts a common and centralised admission process for admission into the IIT Guwahati course. The applicants who qualified in the JEE Advanced exam must go through this counselling process. The allotments of seats are done considering the rank or position secured by the candidate in the JEE Advanced exam, reservation policy, availability of seats, etc.

The admission cycle for IIT Guwahati begins mostly in September for the UG program.

JoSAA conducts 6 rounds of seat allotment sessions for the candidates, and the eligibility criteria for most of the courses are:

  • Candidates must have Physics and Maths as their subjects in the 12th or equivalent exam.

  • They must have additional subjects like Chemistry or Biology.

  • Candidates must have passed their 12th boards with 75% aggregate (For Scheduled caste and tribes it is 65%).

  • For JoSAA counselling, candidates must qualify in the JEE Advanced, and they must register themselves for JoSAA counselling through the official portal.
