Mahabharat is actually written by Ved Vyas, the son of Maharishi Prashar. He first told his son Shukdev to learn this entire book and then give it to his other disciples.

This story begins with Maharaja Shantanu who gave his throne to his son Chitragandh but due to his sudden death, the throne of Hastinapur was handed over to his brother Vichitravirya.

Vichitrvirya has two sons named Dhritarashtra, the elder one and Pandu, the younger one. But, Dhritarashtra was blind by birth and thus the throne was managed by Pandu. He had two wives named Kunti and Madri.

Kunti had 3 sons named Yudhishthir, Bheem and Arjun and Madri had two named Nakul and Sehdev. As they were the kids of Pandu thus they were known as Pandavas. Dhritarashtra, on the other hand, had 100 sons out of which Duryodhana is the elder one. Dhritarashtra sons were known as Kauravas.

This story of the Latest NCERT Books for Class 7 Hindi Mahabharat also comprises yet another major character which is none other than Karan, Kunti’s illegitimate son. He didn’t know his reality. As he grew in the family of sut thus he was always known as Sutputra Karn and got insulted by almost everyone. But he became Duryodhan’s best friend and he gave them the kingdom of Aang and from them, everyone started calling him Aangraj Karan.

Pandu and Madri died in a battle and the throne was handed over to Dhritarashtra. Kauravas always got jealous and never wanted Pandavas to live happy and prosperous lives and thus always created problems for them. Dhritarashtra offered them a piece of land which they named as Indraprastha later on. Pandavas got married to Draupadi and started living happily in Indraprastha. But Kauravas didn’t like this and called them for dyut pratiyogita. There, Kauravas’ uncle Shakuni defeated Yudhishter by cheating and took their throne and kingdom and sent them for 12 years vanvas and 1-year agyatvas.

Pandavas successfully completed their conditions but still Kauravas didn’t ready to return their throne and kingdom to them which then led to the battle of Mahabharat in Kurukshetra.

Shri Krishna, Arjun’s best friend, helped Pandavas in this battle and told Arjun about the reality of life and the theory of karma. His preaching is known as Geeta Gyan which is the most important chapter of this story.

Arjun had killed several powerful and respected fighters of Kauravas including Bheeshpitama, Guru Dronacharya, Guru Shukracharya and a lot more. All of them loved Arjun a lot but due to some personal issues, they had to fight against him.

Before the commencement of this battle, Karan came to know about his reality and got to know that he is also one of the Pandavas. But due to his real friendship with Duryodhana and his bad behavior with Draupadi, he never joined the camp of Pandavas.

Karan had a word with Kunti where he promised that he would never kill Pandavas except Arjun.

In the battle between Arjun and Karan, Arjun killed Karan but after that he came to know that Karan was none other than but his elder brother.

Later in the battle, Bheem kills Dusshasan, the younger brother of Duryodhana and drinks his blood owing to one of his pratigya. He also killed Duryodhana and finally won the battle of Mahabharat. Then, Pandavas visited King Dhritarashtra and requested him to give their Indraprastha back.

This story ends with the story of Shri Krishan who ruled Dwarka for 36 years. But due to problems, their vanity ended and he could not bear this pain and sat in meditation. He died there and when this news reached Hastinapur, Pandavas got disappointed and left everything by handing over their throne to their grandson Parikshit. They went to the forest and spent the rest of their life in the jungles.

Lessons We Can Learn From Class 7 Hindi Book - Mahabharata

Here are a small list of all the major lessons that the great Mahabharata teaches us:

  • Mahabharata revolves around the war of duty but the major fact behind the destruction is that everything happens out of revenge. So, the main learning is that revengeful behavior or thinking will only lead to one’s destruction.

  • Initially, Arjuna was hesitant against the war but Krishna reminded him to stand for Dharma, even if it's for going against his own people. We always have to stand for what is right, and even fight for it if needed. The right is right, irrespective of anything.

  • The friendship between Krishna and Arjuna is something we can look for. On the other hand, the friendship between Karna and Duryodhan is no less inspiring. We need to look after the eternal bond of friendships.

  • Half knowledge can be very dangerous in life. It can even lead to destruction. In Mahabharata, Abhimanyu teaches us how half knowledge can have adverse effects in life.

  • We should not give up on life despite having all the hurdles. There cannot be a better example for this than Karana.

  • By being a woman, doesn’t make you a lesser individual as a person. A woman like Draupadi will fight for herself and will not be passive.
