Class 3 English Chapter 2 Nina and the Baby Sparrows- A Brief Summary

The chapter “Nina and the Baby Sparrows” is a beautiful and heart-touching story. This wonderful chapter is penned by Pratibha Nath. The themes of this chapter include birds, love for nature, etc. This chapter teaches us how to express our feelings to our parents. This Class 3th English Chapter 2 is a very important chapter which teaches students the importance of caring about nature.

The chapter opens with Nina and her mother. Nina’s aunt was getting married and there was great joy in Nina’s house. Nina, along with her father, mother and little brother were going to Delhi for the wedding. Everyone was happy, except Nina.

We see that Nina’s mother took her to the market to buy her a new dress, but Nina is not excited about her new dress. Her mother asks her what colour of dress she would like but Nina says she does not want any new dress. Her mother asks whether she would like a salwar-kameez instead, but Nina shakes her head. Then, Nina’s mother asks her if she’ll like to buy the lovely white shoes Nina saw last week. But, she refused to buy those as well.

Furthermore, in the English Class 3 Chapter 2, we see that Nina’s mother was upset because of Nina’s behaviour but she didn’t say anything and they went back home. After having lunch, Nina’s mother sat near Nina and asked her why she said ‘no’ to everything. Then, Nina said that she doesn’t want to go to the wedding. “But why?” asked her mother. And without saying anything Nina started crying. Nina’s kind mother took Nina in her arms and asked her what it was that was bothering her.

Here, we get to learn about the birds. Nina tells her mother about the sparrow’s nest that is on the bookshelf in her room. She says there are two baby sparrows in the nest and their feathers are just growing. She tells her mother that with growth, the baby sparrows are becoming hungry and they cry “cheep-cheep” all day, asking for food. So, Nina worries if they all go away for the wedding, the place will be locked and the papa and mama sparrows won’t be able to feed their babies.

After hearing this, Nina’s kind and loving mother cried Nina’s name and hugged her. She asked Nina not to worry and assured her that they will leave the window open. She also told Nina that while she enjoys the wedding, the baby sparrows will get nice and fat. So Nina agreed and upon returning Nina saw two plump sparrows all over the room and Nina was thrilled and happy.
