A Comprehensive Guideline for FMGE Exam 2020

You may have toiled hard for getting into your preferred medical college overseas, but there is a hurdle still before you, should you choose to start your medical practice in India. Even though you may have studied in foreign universities for a prolonged period, having spent a considerable amount in terms of fees you would still have to clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) after earning your medical degree. Taking into account the importance of this FMGE exam 2020, here are a few highlights of this exam that ensures that you approach this exam with better preparation.

I. Eligibility criteria 

FMGE exam 2020 will be held by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), and the examination will be conducted on computer-based mode. Before you proceed to enrol yourself for this examination, take a look at the eligibility criteria of FMGE 2020.

  • Candidates will necessarily have to be an Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India.

  • Primary medical qualification is required, which requires the attestation of the Indian Embassy, or the particular institution that is included in the World Directory of Medical Schools as indicated by WHO.

  • Candidates must obtain the primary medical qualification. Please ensure that the degree is at your disposal before you apply for the examination. It is mandatory to provide documentary evidence of such primary medical qualification ahead of the cut-off date


  • II. Date and Exam Timing of FMGE 2020

    The allotted FMGE exam centres will be informed to candidates a week ahead of FMGE 2020 through their admit card. 

    FMGE exam timing is such that 150 minutes is provided for both the section which makes the duration of the examination to be 3 hours. The tentative allocation time that you may be subjected to is mentioned below.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on FMGE 

    Here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about the examination which you already had or are likely to have during your examination preparation.

    FAQ 1: Which photo IDs will be accepted for entering the examination centre?

    FMGE exam 2020 notification will list out the documents that you need to carry to the examination centre. However, you will have to ensure that such authorised photo IDs are original and valid (i.e. non-expired). You may carry any one of the photo IDs – PAN card, Voter ID, Passport, Driving License, Aadhaar (with the photograph).

    Please ensure that your name on the photo identification matches with what is mentioned in your admit card.

    FAQ 2: How many attempts can a candidate have in the examination? 

    You are entitled to 3 attempts in the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination.

    FAQ 3: How is the registration fee paid?

    The candidate has the option of remitting the registration fee through multiple getaways. You can make the payment through debit card, credit card, and internet banking.

    FAQ 4: What is the nature of the exam? Is there negative marking for wrong answers?

    You will have to write a computer-based test having multi-choice questions. The exam does not have negative marking, and one mark will be awarded to the candidate for each correct answer.
