The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), which was formerly known as the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), is the qualifying test for MBBS and BDS programmes in Indian medical and dental colleges. NEET exam is conducted by the governing agency called National Testing Agency (NTA). Before NTA, which is an autonomous testing organisation, the test was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The examination offers 90,000 seats in MBBS and BDS colleges of India and is conducted in May every year. Any student who wishes to study medical courses needs to have Physics, Chemistry, Biology as their compulsory subjects in Class 10th and 12th and must have passed these subjects. 


The NEET exam is very important for the students who took the biology stream because it helps the students to get admitted in various medical colleges and make their future as medical professionals. The NEET exams consist of MCQ questions. Students who passed class 12th exams can participate in the NEET exam. For clearing the NEET exams, students should practise more and have the proper required knowledge for passing the exams. NEET paper is an objective-type based entrance test that consists of a total of 180 questions. The question paper for NEET is divided into three sections – Physics, Chemistry, Biology. Physics and Chemistry have 45 questions each and Biology has 90 questions. There are 4 options provided for each question, in which 3 options are incorrect and 1 is a correct option. For every correct answer, 4 marks are provided. 


Since the NEET exam is a negative marking exam, 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer and no mark is reduced for a question that is left unattempted. The paper was of a total of 720 marks. The question paper took place in 11 languages: English, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Oriya, Tamil, Assamese, Telugu, Gujarati, Marathi and Kannada. NTA specifically designed the NEET exams in different sets and the difficulty level for the exam is moderate but it is advisable to always practice previous years' question papers for understanding the exam paper pattern.

  • The difficulty level of the Physics section was tough in the NEET 2016 exam.
