So the forest cover is approximately 20% of the geographical land area. In terms of fraction it is ⅕ of the geographical land area. The forest area is divided into different categories like Very dense, Moderately dense, Open forest. The state of Arunachal Pradesh has the largest forest area of 66,964 sq. km. which is 79.96% of the total land area of the state. The state of Chhattisgarh has a forest area of 55,457 sq. km making it the second largest forest area state and it covers 41.09% of the total land area of Chhattisgarh. The state of Punjab has the lowest forest cover in terms of its percentage of land having a forest area of 1,837 sq. km which is 3.65% of the total land area.
