Hint: The Earth is blessed with an infinite variety of land-forms. Mountains, hills, plateaus and plains comprise the four major types of land-forms. A mountain refers to any natural elevation of the earth surface. Mountains are classified into three types - Fold Mountains, Block Mountains and the Volcanic Mountains.

Complete Answer:
The Himalayas and the Alps are examples of 'fold' types of mountains.

Given below describes the formation of fold mountains-
1.Whenever an area of sea separates two plates, sediments are settled on the seafloor in the form of depressions called geosynclines. These sediments gradually with time become compressed into the form of sedimentary rock.
2.When the two plates move towards one another again, then the layers of sedimentary rock on the seafloor get crumpled and folded.
3.Eventually the sedimentary rock gets visible above the sea level signifying a range of fold mountains.
Fold mountains are created with the help of a process called 'orogeny'. Millions of years are taken by an organic event to make a fold mountain. When a tectonic plate experiences pressure from two sides, it gets folded. Some part of its portion becomes elevated and creates the fold mountains.
The depression creates the valleys. The Himalayas, The Andes and the Alps are all Fold Mountain. They are referred to as the young mountains of the world and hence they possess some of the highest peaks present in the world.

Note:Fold mountains come under the category of the most common type of mountains present in the world. The rugged, soaring heights of the Himalayas, Andes, and Alps are all active fold mountains. The Himalayas stretch through the borders of China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, and Pakistan.
