Hint: Project Tiger was a tiger conservation programme which was launched by the Government of India. As Bengal Tiger is the National animal of India, it is very important to save these precious spices.

Complete answer:
Bengal Tiger is the national animal of India. In the 1970s, people observed that the population of these tigers was depleting at a higher rate. Their habitats and natural heritage were in danger. Thus, the government decides to have a programme which includes the safety of their natural habitat and conservation of their population and prohibiting hunting.

The objectives of this project are:
Reduction of the risk factors that lead to depletion in the population of the tiger and helping them in increasing the population by providing suitable management and habitat. And recovery of the ecosystem in which they are most comfortable.
And to maintain a tiger population which has economical value, cultural value and ecological values.
The other methods were developed for the counting and for the monitoring of the tigers. A national level administration was developed for the smooth conduction of the project, which is called as National Tiger Conservation Authority. This authority developed many conservational units all over India. Like, Western Ghats conservation unit, Sariska Conservational unit, Kaziranga Conservational unit, etc.
Various tiger reserves were created across the country where no human activities or restricted human activities were allowed.

Note: Project not only focused on tiger development and protection, but also focused on the awareness among common people, so that more accurate targets can be achieved. Project was also focused on the ecosystem and providing natural habitat to tigers. After this project, there is an increase in the tiger population in India.
