FAQs on RD Sharma Class 8 Solutions Chapter 15 - Understanding Shapes I Polygons (Ex 15.1) Exercise 15.1
1. What is a polygon?
A polygon is a two-dimensional figure, which consists of line segments connected end to end. Three or more line segments join to form a polygon. The name poly means many and gons means side. As the name suggests it has multiple sides, Based on the number of sides the polygons are classified into different types,
Three-sided- Triangle.
Four-sided- Quadrilateral.
Five-sided- Pentagon.
Six-sided- Hexagon.
Eight-sided- Octagon.
2. What are some of the important types of polygon?
The following are some of the important types of polygon:
Regular polygon- In this polygon, all the sides, interior, and exterior angles are equal.
Irregular polygon- In this polygon, all the sides and angles are not equal. It is completely the opposite of the regular polygon.
Concave polygon- This polygon has at least one side angle of more than 180 degrees.
Convex polygon- It is opposite of the concave polygon, where interior angles are less than 180 degrees and vertices in the polygon always face outwards.
Quadrilateral polygon- It has four sides. Square, Rectangle, Parallelogram are some of the examples of it.
Pentagon- This polygon has five sides.
3. What are some real-life examples of Polygon?
The following are some of the real-life applications of the polygon in our daily life,
The rectangular part of a table or chair top is a polygon
The triangular- pyramids of Egypt are polygons.
Electronic items such as TV, Mobile, Laptop, Monitor screens are polygon.
The truss and walls of the building are polygons.
The football ground which has a rectangular shape is a polygon.
Polygons such as rectangles, triangles, squares are easy to find in real life. But shapes like trapezium, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, and parallelogram are rare to find. However, we can find it in jewelry and ornaments.

Practice as many problems and various concepts as you can. Maths is a hands-on subject, which can be mastered only through regular practice.
Start by solving examples. Don't start by solving complex problems. Always start from basics & clear your doubts from your teacher, if any.
Instead of memorizing the formulas, try to solve related questions as it can give a clear knack for understanding.
Understand the derivation in a practical way rather than memorizing.
Don't lose touch with the previous year’s questions to understand the Maths pattern in a better way.
