RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Chapter-5 Exponents (Ex 5A) Exercise 5.1 - Free PDF

RS Aggarwal Class 7 Maths Exercise 5a from the chapter “Exponents” is an important exercise that provides extensive knowledge about the laws of exponents. An exponent can be defined as any real number raised to a certain negative or positive power. Solving the problems given in RS Aggarwal Class 7 Maths Chapter 5 Exercise 5a allows oneself to excel in expressing repetitive products into a form of exponents thereby reducing such an expression to its lowest term. Suitable examples and problems are used in it to explain the concepts of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of exponential numbers.

What is Defined by the Exponents?

With the help of the exponents, you can write a very long and complicated equation in a very simple format. Only two components are involved to form an equation that includes exponents. One is known as the base number and the exponent will represent the number of times you want to multiply the numerical value represented by the base number.

Types of Exponents

The exponents can be of four different types based on the numerical value represented by the exponent.

Positive Exponents: The value of the exponent, in this case, will be positive which means the exponent or the number of times you want to multiply the base number with the same numerical digit deals with positive numbers.

Negative Exponents: The exponents will deal with negative numbers.

Zero Exponents: In this case, the value of the exponent will be zero and the net result will also be zero because the net value will be equivalent to the value of the base number.

Rational Exponents: In this case, the exponents will be represented by the use of fractions.

Simple Ways to Solve Exponent Equations

There are some simple tricks that will make the process of equations easier for the students. First of all, they need to remember that if they need to multiply two base numbers with exponents and the base numbers are identical, then they can add the exponents only to find out the result. If they have to divide base numbers that are identical, then they can subtract the exponents. The final thing to remember is that if they have to deal with only one base number, but there are more than two exponents((am)n), to find out the answer they need to multiply the exponents.

FAQs on RS Aggarwal Solutions Class 7 Chapter-5 Exponents (Ex 5A) Exercise 5.1

1. What is the purpose of learning the concepts of exponents?

The role of exponents in writing mathematical formulations is very important. The concept was introduced in order to make the task of writing a complicated e equation an abbreviated format. The exponents let you write a complicated equation in a precise format by using only one base and exponent.

For example, if you want to multiply the value of 10 with the same digit 10 times, it is better to represent the long equation with the help of exponents by using the base that will be 10 and the exponent that will also be 10 here, because you want to multiply the digit ten times. So, it will look like 10^10.

2. Should the exponents always be of positive values?

Writing a number with an exponent means the numerical value of the number will be raised to that particular power represented by the exponent. That is why the exponent can be of positive or negative value. Learning the concept of exponents makes the task of writing long equations easier for the students and it will also help them to calculate and find out the answer in an organised way.

3. Why are exponents used in algebra?

Algebra teaches us how to assume a numerical value in absence of any particular digit and solve an equation. Similarly, using an exponent in algebra denotes that you can raise the value of the base number to an infinite number as well. Suppose you want to raise the value of the number 10, but you are not sure what the exact numerical value of the exponent is. In this case, you can assume the numerical value of the exponent to be "x" and you can represent the number as 10^x.

4. Where can the students get the necessary guidance to learn the concepts of exponents?

The students can get the necessary guidance and support that they will need in order to learn a new concept on the website of Vedantu. There are several web pages of Vedantu that provide students with a brief overview of these concepts so that they can get the primary idea associated with the subject matter and to learn more they can always join the classes and download the free printable documents in PDF format.

5. What are the basic equation methods involved in solving the equations of exponents?

In order to solve problems dealing with the exponents, the students must be good at basic calculations like multiplication and division. Since you can raise the value of any base number with the help of the exponents, there is an important role played by the multiplication of the numerical values and also the 'division' plays another important role. The students need to be particularly attentive while solving the equations that involve exponents.
